DatasetItem describes what a buyer is purchasing at catalog time: coverage (temporal, spatial, vertical), refresh behaviour, size estimates, data quality flags, and how the data will be delivered. Credentials never appear here — for streaming access methods they are provisioned post-confirm via DatasetFulfillment.
